deja vu Wednesday

dejavu

Deadlines approaching it’s Wednesday
Same place, same time, same space
but I stopped and realized
though sameness I had deja vu

Stopped me cold as my deadline approached

threw me off my game
cause every Wednesday is the same

except for You & deja vu

Same place, same time, same space
except for today
You & deja vu

    1. After coming back from Vietnam, I decided to go visit Germany, unaware I was on their Detain listing for draft dodging. It was a legal mixup, but I was detained and forced to report to the nearest German military base for induction. Once I was there, I refused to speak anything other than English. I was assigned to the Officers’ club as a detail, dirty work, clearing tables, dish washing, all menial jobs, but hey, I figured it’d only take a short time to straighten out my citizenship and already completed NATO military service. Apparently there was no rush in the court system for a draft dodger, so it took over 6 months for me to be released.
9 years later I was reassigned as an American liaison for NATO on the same German Air Base. I checked in with the German Commander, but his First Sergeant wasn’t there, so I said I would come back later when he was available for introductions. My family and I decided we would spend some time showing kids where Dad was “jailed.” much to their enjoyment and humore.
We went to the American bar with small café for Dinner. I went to pick up drinks for the wife and I and suddenly this older German military guy starts giving me the eye. I ignored him and picked up our drinks and sat down. Kids wanted to play pool, so I went back and grabbed quarters. After our first games, I noticed there were German military policemen talking to the bartender and looking my way. then the policemen walked towards me. They asked me to accompany them, I was to be arrested for impersonating an American military officer, a felony in Germany and on an American facility. I was explaining in my best German where they could go with their charges, when the German and American Commanders walked in to meet me and my Family. The German First Sergeant was still the same old German that arrested me at the airport when I arrived in Germany many years before. Even funnier, he was being assigned as my aide de camp.))))))))))) payback was priceless. He retired before I finished my assignment. Karma, indeed.

      1. Indeed covered for life, just bureaucracy sometimes delays real expensive surgeries unless life or death. I’ve learned how to beat them at their own game most of time. If they reject proposal, I just start visiting local ERs, EVERY DAY until they give in. Stubborness runs in all my family cultures’ past)))))))))))
I never gave up my German citizenship, never thought of it as I headed off the Vietnam. Was a real surprise for me. My Sons selected alternate civilian services to meet their requirements except my adopted Son, he only wants to be an American, his choice, fully.

      2. Had a great weekend, well, my fingers should unbend after making a last minute road, first time as passenger in my own bus, another first, being driven by my Ginger DaughtersInLaw, Red1&Red2, Twins. Geez, you’d think they were driving the Audi TT, not the Mercedes bus. I’ve never been so happy to get somewhere and GET BACK HOME. I’m not a good passenger, at all. Not their faults, good drivers, new meaning to Offensive drivers I must agree. And they never drove in Germany, I can’t take the blame here for them. But it was for a good cause, surprise one of my Sons for his birthday. A good time was had by all. We went to dinner and while we were gone, friends and neighbors set up cake & desserts in back yard around pool area. Yay. Hope your weekend was good and gets better as it progresses. I paid for free time today, work woke me up at 530,hmmm. No rest for the wicked, I suppose)))))))))))))))

    1. I’m okay. Lol about the mysteriously disappearing friend. 🙂 Yep all is well with me, thank God. Been busy with a lot of personal stuff, but lately it all has calmed down, so I’ve had time to write and to read other people’s blogs. I wanted to read and reply earlier, but something always came up. I’m glad I made you smile. That made me smile. Thanks for the hugs. Big hugs here too. So how are u? How’s your daughter? Everything good? Thanks for the reply, btw. I’ll be around. 🙂

      1. I’m glad ur daughter is doing well. 🙂 I always think about u and her and I have u both in my prayers. I may not be ultra spiritual but I do believe in a powerful God who listens to prayers and cares about healing. Thanks again for being my friend and for everything else. More hugs! 😀
