Hi Michelle,
What a great song with some great history. The original was recorded by Lori Lieberman. She had been to a Don Mclean concert and heard him sing the song, “Empty Chairs”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtrIc8vq7wU
She was so moved by it that she wrote the lyrics to a new song. They were later rewritten for her and she recorded the final version in 1971. The link below is Lori performing the song on the Mike Douglas show in 1973. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTyGLBANuOg

Don Mclean also wrote and sang the great song, “American Pie”, which was a tribute to the late Buddy Holley. This song brings back some bitter sweet memories of those long ago days. I remember reading the paper with my older brother and sister the day after the plane crash that took Holley’s life, I was a few days short of 10 years old. Sometime I am hit with the nostalgia of those days gone by. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsZFiMo8TIc

I find it strange that some memories can bring back warm good feelings, but at the same time bring back memories that are painful.

Yes, music can do that to us. I can hear a song that brings back such strong vivid memories, at times the nostalgia has a strong pull on ones emotions.

🙂 I used to do a “Music of the Day” post last year. Started in in October 2012 and finished it in Feb or March 2013. I loved doing that, but it was a pain looking for the information on the songs. Like 99 Red Balloons. That was written because Nina watched a balloon go over the Berlin Wall and wondered what would happen if the people on the other side thought it was a missile

It does. I have changed blogging platforms loads of times and so much has happened in that time, not all of it good. But not all of it bad either

Haha I wouldn’t quite say that

Normally when people say that to me, it is as they are handing me a “All you Can Hug Yourself” white jacket 😀

For some reason the song won’t come up on my computer but I know it well. I want to tell those dudes to shut up too! lol Somehow though the words don’t come when we are being killed softly with their words!
